Sassafras Springs Winery and Vineyard opened in 2014 on 15 beautiful countryside acres. It’s a lifetime dream fulfillment of Gene and Cheryl Long, adventuresome entrepreneurs who’d enjoyed successful careers as insurance executives for over 20 years, with agencies in five in Northwest Arkansas locations. Gene had dreamed of owning a winery; Cheryl, a wedding venue. The property they purchased had been the horse farm of former Razorback football coach Houston Nutt, and the Longs were certain that the natural springs, rolling hills and wildlife would be the perfect location for their winery. Growth has been remarkable, with the acquisition of additional acreage now totaling 70+, and 20,000 visitors coming every year. Sassafras is truly a family affair. Brothers Drew and Derek manage operations and winemaking, and Derek’s wife, Sarah, is the events manager.

If you are thinking of having a wedding Sassafras is a dream venue. The Chapel ruins is the ideal place for “I do’s” and the Stables is a showcase of rustic charm and spacious elegance. Their new Veranda is a stunning covered deck overlooking the Sassafras vineyards. The Peacock room is an intimate, lavish setting reserved for brides to get ready and watch for guests arriving in perfect privacy. The upscale Lodge at the Winery is the latest showcase venue, just opened in 2019 with four bedrooms, a spectacular Great room and a spacious deck at the foot of the vineyards.

No one else in NWA can include an authentic winery experience as part of a a wedding, with wine tasting flights, food and wine pairings, and even a grape stomp, really anything they dream up we will do that. A recent bride said, “When we arrived at Sassafras I was blown away at how it looked exactly how I had envisioned in my mind. It was beautiful and elegant and absolutely perfect.”

As the Longs make it their passion to discover new and creative ways to heighten their guests’ experience, Sassafras Springs continually earns recognition as Northwest Arkansas’ number one venue and captures international and regional awards for wine. Sassafas Winery is only multi-winner for both Best Winery and Best Wedding Venue in Northwest AR.The 70+ acre estate setting has the old world charm of Tuscany with several venue options for any private event.
